Despite growing up in poverty, my husband and I are now outwardly successful products of the public education system. We are both physicians with “excellent” jobs, and our children have access to the “best” public and private schools. So why did we choose to homeschool – no, unschool – no, radically unschool our three sons?
We weren’t part of the fortunate few who chose unschooling from the start. Our children attended top schools, and we were model PTA parents. But then we read countless books and articles as we researched the best ways to ensure learning, happiness, and success for our children. That research led us to unschooling.
Now, we don’t need all of that research to know that unschooling is right for us – all we have to do is look at our children. In this talk, I will share our journey, addressing the many fears that we overcame along the way.
